The Fox Valley Chorus, a member
of Sweet Adelines, Int’l, under the direction of Heather Johnston, won first
place in the regional Sweet Adelines chorus competition on Saturday, May 17 at
the KI Center in Green Bay. Scoring a total of 604 points in categories which
include Music, Sound, Showmanship and Expression. By scoring more than 600
points, director Heather Johnston achieved the status of Master Director in the
Sweet Adelines organization.
The first-place winning chorus
from each of 31 regions compete in an International Competition the following
year. The Fox Valley Chorus will be representing Region 22 at International
Competition in October of 2009 in Nashville, TN. The Fox Valley Chorus has been
privileged to represent Region 22 at International Competition on four previous
occasions.
Heather Johnston is also a member
of the first place winning quartet NRG! from Region 22, and will be competing on
the International stage in November of 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Fox Valley Chorus has
approximately 45 members who share a love of music and singing, who come from
all walks of life and all areas of the Fox Valley, and as far away as Green Bay,
Shawano, and Wisconsin Rapids. The chorus presents an annual
show each fall. They are always looking for opportunities to share their
music.
The chorus
holds weekly rehearsals on Tuesdays at the Grace Lutheran Church on Mason St. in
Appleton at 7:00 p.m.

Sweet Adelines, International is
an organization of women who sing four-part harmony a capella in the barbershop
style. The Fox Valley Chorus is one of 16 Sweet Adelines International choruses
that participated in the Mid-America Region 22 Convention and Competition in
Green Bay, May 15-18. More than 600 women from throughout the state and
portions of Upper Michigan, Iowa and Illinois performed in both chorus and
quartet competition.
The Fox Valley Chorus has been a
prominent member of the Fox River Valley musical community for over 35 years.
The chorus is a member of Sweet Adelines International, which is an
international organization of women whose purpose is to teach the American folk
art of singing four-part harmony, barbershop style, and through performances to
encourage a universal appreciation of the tradition of that music.
Sweet
Adelines International is the largest women’s singing organization in the world,
with chapters throughout the United States, as well as Australia, England, and
Sweden to name a few.
