It’s not every day when a marriage can last for 40 years. It’s even rarer when a local chapter of an international organization achieves such a distinction, but 40 years after their initial “I do’s” a local all-women’s a capella singing group was recently awarded by its international organization for this distinct honor – and that calls for an anniversary celebration.
The Fox Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International received its 40-year anniversary award from the international headquarters this November, which will kick off a year-long celebration, recognizing that achievement.
Fox valley chorus is a membership organization of female singers, who meet regularly to practice, perform, socialize and have fun. We currently have over 50 singers of all ages, from all walks of life and all parts of the Fox Valley and surrounding areas in Wisconsin. These women come together each week for many of the same reasons. They come for the love of harmony and the sheer joy of singing together, but they all stay for the friendships that they have made and all of the laughter and tears that they have shared together.
Fox Valley Chorus loves to get out and sing for our community and have been a prominent member of the Fox River Valley musical community for over 40 years! We sing at annual shows, a number of community events, and we compete at the Regional and International levels. We also perform Singing Telegrams, singing Christmas cards or will sing for any other special occasion. We are available to sing at your next function or event. Education
In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of acapella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. Several times a year, we get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.
Competition
In the spring of every year, Fox Valley Chorus participates in the Region 22 chorus competition. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall in a city selected each year.
Quartets
Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. Fox Valley Chorus currently is home to 2 quartets, and we are very proud of them! NRG! Won the regional quartet competition and competed this fall 2010 in Seattle, Washington and took 26th place! Way to go NRG!

Fox Valley Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. Sweet Adelines International is a highly respected worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance.
